Setting Up Subdomains for Funnels

In this guide, I'll walk you through the process of setting up subdomains for your website or funnel. This is a simple three-step process that will help you take a newly created funnel live using a subdomain.

Step 1: Access Domain Settings

First, navigate to the Settings on the left sidebar, and then select Domains from the new menu that appears. Next, click on Add New Domain in the top right corner.

Step 2: Specify the Subdomain

In the pop-up that appears, you'll need to specify the subdomain name. For this example, we'll use promo.whitelabelguides.com. Since this is a subdomain, you don't need an "A" record, but you will need to add a CNAME record.

To begin, copy the URL in red from the pop-up. You’ll need this URL when configuring your DNS settings with your domain registrar.

Step 3: Configure CNAME Record with Your Registrar

Now, switch over to your domain registrar. We're using GoDaddy for this example, but the process is similar across most registrars. Navigate to your registrar’s DNS Management page for the domain.

1. Click Add and then select CNAME from the dropdown.

2. In the Host field, enter whatever appears before the dot in your subdomain. For this example, enter promo.

3. Paste the URL you copied earlier into the Points To field.

4. Reduce the TTL (Time to Live) in the dropdown to propagate the record faster.

5. Finally, click Save.

Step 4: Add the Subdomain to Your Platform

Return to your platform and click Add. This may fail the first few times until the CNAME record has propagated. Once successful, you'll receive a confirmation message indicating that your subdomain has been added.

Next, select a previously-created funnel from the dropdown and click Link Domain.

Step 5: Verify the Subdomain URL

Now, navigate to the selected funnel under Sites on your platform. You should see that it now has a URL associated with your subdomain.

Step 6: Customize the URL Slug

If you wish to change the URL slug, simply click the Publishing tab and edit the Step Path field.

Step 7: Test the Subdomain

When you test the URL, it may fail the first time as the SSL certificate is being built. Simply refresh the page, and you should see that your new subdomain is live and ready to go!

FAQs

Q: Can I still manually configure my domains if I prefer not to use Domain Connect?
A: Yes, manual configuration is still an option for users who prefer to set up their DNS records manually or whose domain providers are not currently supported by Domain Connect.

Q: What if my domain provider is not one of the top three supported by Domain Connect?
A: Users with domain providers not currently supported by Domain Connect can still manually add the required DNS records. The manual configuration process remains the same.

Q: What if I toggle on the option for "Also add www domain" but my www subdomain is already pointed to another system?
A: A CNAME record will be created for your subdomain in your DNS records and pointed to us, but we will not be able to delete the existing CNAME or A record that you have for your www domain, which is pointed to another service. You will need to delete that yourself so that your www domain can work with us.
